To Catch A Thief

This past week has been spent trying to catch the thief from Monroeville Alabama that made the poor choice to try to purchase a Handheld phone from HP for $538.98 using my money. When I got an e-mail from HP Home & Home Office Store telling me that my order had been shipped to :
****** *. *******
*** Golf Drive
Monroeville, AL 36460
I set about tracking down the problem because I had not ordered a Handheld phone from HP. Thank goodness they sent me that e-mail to confirm the purchase because I was able to stop payment on the order and they showed the person that it was being shipped to in the letter . On further investigation it appears that since April 24, to the best of my knowledge, they have been on quite the shopping spree trying to use my money. At this point holds have been put on my account so no further funds can be withdrawn.
One large purchase made on May 19, that they apparently attempted to return and get the cash for, caused the hold to be put on my account. The banking systems did do a good job of protecting any further drain on funds.
The only reason that their was that much money to be robbed from me is because I had bought really nice Mother's day gifts, that I had saved up for, and the money was in my account because I bought the gifts on line and had to put them on a credit card to get the transaction to go through. The money was in my account waiting for the CC bill to come so I could pay for them.
Be careful our there ladies!

  1. Wow, how terrible! I hate that this is happening. The post caught my eye when I saw Monreoville, AL because that is only about 30 minutes from my house. Hope that all of your money and such is recovered.

  2. Oh my goodness, that gives me the heebie jeebies. Do you know how they got your card number? Our bank has stopped thieves twice from attempting to make a purchase. All of our accounts have an Equifax credit alert, so I get regular emails with any changes to any of my accounts. I highly recommend the service. You can't be too careful anymore. So sorry this happened to you :(

  6. Hi Sue,
This is terrible. I've had two ladies I worked with that this kind of thing happened to as well.

I don't know how people that do things like this can get up and look at themselves in the mirror each morning... Glad you received the email though - the people actually gave their home address to have the item shipped? Unbelievable.
I'm thinking smiles your way - remember, there are a lot of nice people out there too ;)

  7. Oh my gosh! There are too many selfish people in the world. Hope that all your accounts get straightened out quickly. Guess this is a concern for all of us now in the computer age...
On a brighter note - I love your new wreath! It is absolutely gorgeous!!!!

  8. That's so crazy! A few years ago I had my checking account wiped out by computer hackers. The bank took care of me but it's a very scary situation! I'm so glad it all worked out for you! Love, Carrie

P.S. can't wait to enjoy your beautiful gardens and poolside!

  9. I'm so sorry to hear that, Sue. We experienced this a few years back with our account being wiped clean by some folks in Southern California. According to our bank statement, they had a great time in Vegas. We do have to be terribly cautious in this day. I hope everything is okay now?
