Christmas Past

It has been so long since I have blogged it is hard to remember how. Anyway, how is everyone? Thank you for the kind expressions of sympathy. This is a difficult time of year for those of us that have lost loved ones and my heart goes out to all who are dealing with their losses.
Friday we have the family coming to our house to celebrate Christmas. This year we got one of the new pre-lit, slim Christmas trees that they had at Costco. It will be our only decoration this year. With Thanksgiving close to the end of November, an early celebration to accommodate family commitments, milestone birthdays to commemorate and my general funk it will have to do.
Life At Home, or any where for that matter, always has its ups and downs. The second half of this year has been weighted more to the down side but I look forward to a new year. With all the problems of last year filed away as life being lived, lessons learn, and memories saved we all move on. We make the best of what we have left with the ones we love and carry on.
Blessing and much love,
Sue

Hi Sue! It's so good to see you've posted! I've missed you! I know your heart is still heavy wit the loss of your mother. But it's wonderful you're having a get together at your house and start making some new memories! Take care and hope you'll be back to blogging.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  3. Dear Sue,
I understand how you are feeling. My mother passed away on January 5th of this year, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. It is the cruelest disease, and her slow decline shadowed our Christmas celebration last year. I tried to make as normal a time as possible for the family and for my father, as I know my mother -- who adored the season and always went "all out" for it -- would have wanted that.

But my heart was very heavy. I was hoping that this year would be more free from shadows, but my father now is in decline. We who are lucky enough to have our parents until they are quite old often have to deal with a very long and sad goodbye.

After being haunted by images and memories of my mother as she was toward the end of her long dark road, I am finally remembering her as she was before Alzheimer's took her away. I hear her advice, her voice, see her face -- my "heart pictures" of her are pushing out the sad images.

I wish you peace and a measure of contentment in this season of gifts. Clearly you and your mother gave one another the greatest gift of all -- great love. And that never leaves us.

    All best wishes, Cass

  4. Sue,
I think you are a wise woman who knows her priorities and her limitations. Blessings on you and yours as you put one foot in front of the other...and carry on.

  6. A pretty table! I am feeling the same way this Christmas and decided to have just a tabletop tree. That is so true, that we have to carry on but hard to get in the Christmas spirit. I left a comment on your mom's passing.
    Best wishes...
