US ~ 4th of July ~

The cooking part of the to do list is done. The car is loaded and after a good nights sleep I am checking in with you to wish all in the US a safe and happy 4th of July.
Here in the mid-west the weather is finally warm enough to enjoy being outside. Those close to any of the many lakes that surround our beautiful state get as close to them as they can around the 4th of July and those who summer up north are settled in and ready to party.

Most towns have parades where you gather up any bits of red, white and blue that you have and stick it on bikes, kids, wagons and strollers. We head downtown and wave little flags that we get at the grocery store. The parades are varied but most include veterans, town officials, kids, pet's and local politicians.

The water is usually warm enough for us to put the kids in their red, white & blue bathing suits, slather them up in sun screen, strap them into their floaters, lead them to the water and hope that they swim. Mostly though they sit on the sandy beaches and fill their bathing suits or diapers up with sand that gets all over the place when we finally drag them in after a day at the beach.

The pictures above are from the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

Hugs,
Sue

  3. Hubby and I have been thinking about places to go this Summer. Things are so expensive so we were thinking of going close. The Grand Hotel while expensive isn't too far.

  4. Happy 4th of July!

Here in Canada we do the same thing on Canada Day, wear red and/or white, grill hotdogs and hamburgers, see the fireworks etc
We just had Canada Day (July 1st) it was fun because we got to see the fireworks right from our living room window! So we didnt have to go out in the brutal heat (we were having a heat wave the last few days)

  10. Did you spend the holiday at Mackinac? Last summer's vacation was at The Grand Hotel. All FOUR generations of our family enjoyed ourselves immensely. Since you mentioned the Hotel's secrecy, I must add my own frustration. I coveted their lush geraniums. I searched high and low for any information I could find on their type, feeding, or care. All to no avail. Their gardeners are quite hush-hush.

Still, it's a very special place.

  11. Martha,
No we are not on the Island. My friend and I did find out the name of the geraniums. It is something like Sincerity ~ I am not positive but will check with her when I get home next week.
Getting information from the GH is like solving a puzzle. Interesting to hear that others feel the same way.
