~ Ruffels and Reading ~

What a beautiful morning it is here. I hope the sun is shining on you too this morning where ever you are. The flowers are so abundant here this spring that they beg to be harvested.
All the stalks on these iris are so loaded with blooms that they were falling over on to the sidewalk around the pool. John takes great pride in his pristine concrete so this morning I cut them back before their beautiful indigo stained his pride and joy.

Now his sidewalk is free of wandering flora and my sofa table is graced with armfuls of ruffled indigo iris.

One of these days I hope to get time to settle in and read the books that I picked up on the Island.

  6. What beautiful iris's you have. I do wish they had a longer blooming season because they're so pretty -- I think our season around here is over for this year so I certainly enjoyed seeing yours.

  10. Oh my Sue, those are just unbelievable blooms! They are my favorite color, too!

Please, please tell me what they are called and where you got them so I can start growing them. Wow! They are just gorgeous!

  11. Chandy,
I'm so glad you like the iris. I had to look up the name for you. According to Martha Stewart in her 'Gardening' book from 1991 they are called 'Mascara' and are one of her favorites.
    Hope this helps.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  14. THOSE IRISES ARE AMAZING! THe one flower I do not have but I have been so intrigued by them this year. How long do they last once they are cut?
Hope you get caught up on your reading. Does that really happen?

  16. Oh Sue... I could not get on your blog (the error issue) until today, so I had no idea what was going on. I'm so sorry you and John had such a scare. I hope he's doing fine now and I'll pray he stays well.

  17. The iris are stunning. My grandmother had them planted everywhere. I couldn't help but think of her when I saw your beautiful flowers. I don't recall seeing any in this elegant dark shade of indigo. They are amazing. I'm so glad you took a picture to share with us! Have a great pool party this weekend!
