Ivy Covered Cottage

A couple weeks ago I promised to post pictures of some of my favorite houses. Shortly after I took the pictures my computer broke down and I'm still having problems with the text but I did want to get these pictures up for you. These are pictures of my #1 favorite house that just happens to be my Mom & Dad's house

  4. Thanks for the comments. These are pictures of my parents house that I thought you might enjoy. When we were up their for homecoming the ivy seemed to be at its peak of perfection. I will add more details when I can figure out how the text part of blogger works on this computer, very strange indeed.

  5. The photos you've taken really capture the beauty of your parents home! I especially like the one of the foyer with their curving staircase reflected in the mirror. Right out of the pages of a magazine or book. I drive by their home so often with my mind on other things and neglect to take in the beauty of their cottage. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos. So glad to hear you got your new computer - good luck with the learning process!

  8. Good morning to you Sue! I love your parents' home and can easily see why it is your number one favorite! I do believe it would be one of mine, too. I bet that you enjoy your visits there as well. Is this the home that you grew up in? Thank you for sharing and thank you for visiting my blog! :) Smiles to you, Becky

  9. Penny,
I added you to my lovely places to visit, thanks for adding me to Lavender Hill Studio.

    Becky,
The answer to, "Is this the home that you grew up in?", is yes and no. They moved in about 30 years ago. My house was 2 blocks away and most mornings Grama was making pancakes for my kids in her kitchen. We spent a lot of time there and during the last 30 years of my 55 years I did some major growing up and hope to continue the trend, so that's the yes part.

the house looks exactly bar the quantity of yorkshire paving stones in like my friend katharina wolpes house, with ivy hanging from the wall. and such a beautiful place to grow up in. what a treat.

what grew on only one side of the house, entrancing her huge garden and i could smell the flowers coming into my window. i put my bed next to the window and flung open the window, because the smell is most potent in the morning as the flowers unfold after hiding and creating flower smells all night while i slept.
i'd smell the flowers every morning and i'd know what time it was, because of the flowers smells opening up. they didn't smell all the time though. but in spring. wow.

and we had flowers inside the ivy on the wall completely covered with a special kind of ivy hanging. when the wall flowered all the bees would come out and you would hear the buzzing of the bees over the entire flowered wall, to collect pollen. i had the ocassional bees come in my open window in the spring, not all of them fly as high as my window. bees don't fly upwards engough for all or them to collect the pollen.

your parents are so lucky. that's so cool. i admire your house and parents.

hi what is the name of this beautiful ivy?

  12. Anon, I am not sure of the biological name of the ivy. We have always called it grape ivy because it produces small clusters of dark blue berries in the fall that resemble small clusters of grapes.
